Overview of your media center

The media center provides a wealth of print and electronic resources for students.  Our mission to assist students and teachers with all of their information literacy needs.

The media center is the hub of many learning activities including LMS news show, web page updates, electronic bulletin board, online catalog, and online references sources.  We have a wonderful collection of fiction and non-fiction books, magazines, and reference books here at LMS.  The media center also sponsors TEAM READ which includes the LMS Cafe, the LMS yearbook, and Scholastic Book fairs.  I also assist with photography, video needs, newspaper announcements, and miscellanous equipment needs.

Visiting the media center

Students may come to the media center anytime throughout the school day provided they have a pass from a teacher.  Students in grades 6 and 7 will come on a weekly schedule with the R/LA teacher.  8th grade students will come during R/LA or English 1.  This scheduled time for allow for instruction in research skills, information literacy, and use of the circulation system.  Students will also be able to use this time to check-out new books.  While books can be checked in/out at any time by students, we find that the regular schedule helps keep students on track with remembering that is time for a new book

Circulation

The media center strives to maintain an excellent collection of books for students to check out.  We aim to keep our books in excellent condition and have books available in a timely manner for all patrons.  We ask that students help out by following our circulation policies and take great care with the books that they borrow. Students are permitted to check out 2 books at any one time late books:  if you forget a book(s), you will not be able to checkout until they are returned Fines:  no late fines are charged Lost Books:  assessed price of the book must be paid  in order to restore library privileges.Length of checkout:  max. 1 weekOverdue notices are given to the students on a weekly basis, according to their Homeroom Overdue letters are sent to parents when a book is more than 30 days overdue Students with lost or overdue books must take care of this obligation prior to the last day of school

Dear  LMS Parent(s),

I am pleased to announce a new program that I am offering students and families.  It is called TAB book clubs.  TAB is a monthly flyer that offers low-cost popular books.  It is just another way to keep middle-school students engaged in reading.

The students will receive a TAB flyer each month.  You can order with the paper flyer and pay by check (made out to Scholastic Book Clubs), OR you can go online and order at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. I also have a link on our webpage.  Online orders are paid with credit cards and the books shipped to the school.  You simply register and use the code H2F6G to access LMS. Online orders also have access to other catalogs and special offers.  For this program, we cannot accept cash.

The library benefits by receiving bonuses and free books, so this is a great win-win program to get books into the hands of LMS students and improve our library.  Many parents find this is a great way to purchase books for holidays, gifts, and special occasions.

Thank you for your support and happy reading!

Ms. Tait, NBCT
